How Schwartz improved their guests’ experience through installing EV infrastructure
Who are TADWA?
Technology for Ageing and Disability WA (TADWA) is a non-for-profit organisation specialising in supporting those with disabilities and older individuals live independently and enhance their quality of life. Founded in 1984, they have since grown to a company of over 90 staff & volunteers. As a company, TADWA strives to understand the needs of their clients and find the right solution for them.
TADWA’s Transition to an EV Fleet
For years before transitioning to an EV fleet, TADWA used ICE vehicles which relied on the fluctuating fuel market. This constant fluctuation was a challenge to manage financially and inspired TADWA to look for more sustainable and financially viable options for their fleet. With a strong commitment to innovation and care, TADWA turned its attention to the growing electric vehicle market. To begin this transition, TADWA expanded their already extensive fleet of vehicles by adding 12 new electric vehicles (EVs), with an additional 4 on the way.
With this new expansion TADWA required more than just new vehicles, it needed a reliable charging solution that would charge efficiently and streamline business operations. EVSE was chosen for its expertise in providing customised, scalable and future proof EV charging solutions.
After thoroughly assessing the existing site infrastructure and business requirements for the non-for-profit, EVSE provided a tailored solution to ensure that all vehicles remained charged and ready for use. TADWA strives to deliver high-quality and personalised care to all its
clients, requiring its sixteen occupational therapists to travel across the city of Perth and the neighbouring suburbs. To maximise efficiency and ensure staff always have a fully charged vehicle, ready to provide much-needed care, three Ocular 60kW Titan chargers were installed. At the head office in Bassendean, Perth, EVSE installed two 60kW Ocular DC Titan chargers, while an additional 60kW DC Titan charger was installed at their other office in Bunbury, located 2.5 hours south of Perth. This setup allows for the simultaneous charging of two vehicles per charger, enabling TADWA to charge up to six EVs at once.
The Impact
The shift towards an EV fleet has already brought immediate benefits to the organisation– transforming not just the operational efficiency, but their ability to provide care to those who need it most. The most immediate benefit has been the reduction in fuel costs, which has allowed them to relocate their funds toward more vital aspects of their work.
As TADWA strive to deliver the highest level of care to their clients, these cost savings free up resources to support their clients in new and impactful ways.
The impact extends much beyond fuel savings. For TADWA’s team of occupational therapists, the introduction of the EVs has created a level of efficiency previously unattainable. With the ability to charge their vehicles while at the office, this has decreased the disruptions to their daily routines. Whether its back-to-back clients, across Perth’s suburbs or long drives across the state, TADWA’s team can focus on delivering exceptional care with assurance of always having a fully charged vehicle.
Most importantly, this transition has supported TADWA’s mission of reducing their environmental footprint, aligning with their values of sustainability and responsibility that are so central to their work. Each time one of their vehicles hits the road, it represents more than just a trip, it represents a step forward toward a cleaner and greener future for the entire community.
Looking ahead
“The process was easy and we were supported throughout” explained Gill, CEO of TADWA. Transitioning to an EV fleet was the first step in TADWA’s sustainability journey. Pleased with the experience and ease of the transition, Gill is looking forward to expanding their electric fleet and hopes to see their larger vehicles follow in the future.
