ABC News: EVSE’s role in installing EV chargers in apartments

Explore how EVSE enables charging at home to become a reality for those living in apartments.

EVSE x Apartment Charging

As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to gain popularity, apartment living is undergoing a transformation to accommodate this growing trend. EVSE helped retrofit an apartment’s infrastructure in order for residents to have access to their own EV charger. Equipped with a load management system and multiple Ocular IQ Solar chargers, this investment not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also positions the apartment for a brighter, more sustainable future.

The Challenge

In an era where EVs are becoming increasingly popular, residents like Adam Scott and his family faced a common challenge – the inconvenience of charging their EVs. Public charging stations often proved overcrowded, making it difficult for apartment residents to maintain the charging needs of their EVs. The need for an efficient, in-house solution was evident.

The Vision

Neil Le Quesne, the head of the apartment owners’ committee, recognised the importance of addressing this challenge proactively; reiterating that ‘people are wanting to charge their cars at their parking spaces at home’. He envisioned their apartment building as a model of modern living, offering residents the convenience of EV charging at their doorstep. Beyond personal convenience, he saw this as an opportunity to increase property value, anticipating the growing market demand for EV-friendly living spaces.

The Transformation

The journey to realise this vision was a comprehensive retrofit of the apartment building. EVSE initiated a project that involved rewiring the infrastructure, the installation of load management systems, and the installation of Ocular IQ Solar EV chargers. This combination allowed for efficient and intelligent management of power distribution, making the charging process seamless and sustainable.

The Broader Context

The success story of this apartment building’s retrofit is part of a broader movement. Updated national construction standards are on the horizon, mandating EV charging capacity in all new apartment buildings, recognising the importance of EV infrastructure in modern urban living. Governments are actively considering incentives and grants to encourage retrofitting in existing buildings, aligning with the growing adoption of EVs and sustainable practices.

EVSE’s role in paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future in apartment living is clear. Our load management systems and Ocular IQ Solar chargers brought convenience to residents while increasing the desirability and value of their property. As construction standards and government support evolved to meet the demands of the EV era and sustainable practices.
