How South Bowlo Improved Visitor Experience and Moved Towards Sustainability with EVSE
Timothee Resort’s Partnership with EVSE: Collaborating for a Greener Future
At Timothee Resort, located in Busselton, WA, sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s a commitment to creating a better future for guests and the planet. Situated just a couple of hours from Perth, this boutique resort has transformed itself into a haven for eco-conscious travellers through a series of green initiatives. Among these, the integration of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with the help of EVSE Australia stands out as a key step. This case study delves into the journey of Timothee Resort in embracing sustainability and how their partnership with EVSE has been instrumental in achieving their goals.
Timothee Resort has always been a favourite for those looking to escape the city. Recently, the resort undertook a major refurbishment to elevate its status as a boutique accommodation choice for travellers. The refurbishment wasn’t just about updating the aesthetics; it was a conscious decision to reduce the resort’s environmental footprint.
“By refurbishing an old resort instead of building new, we’ve already taken a significant step toward sustainability,” explains Jamie Brady, a representative of Timothee Resort. “Also important to that was reducing the environmental footprint of guests travelling down here.”
Timothee Resort focused on initiatives such as using local products, offering reusable amenities, and encouraging sustainable practices among guests to further reduce their environmental impact. A critical component of this initiative was the introduction of EV charging stations, allowing guests to recharge their vehicles using the resort’s solar-powered infrastructure.
The Challenge
With the refurbishment complete, Timothee Resort faced a new challenge: How could they cater to the growing number of guests travelling in electric vehicles while reinforcing their commitment to sustainability? The answer was clear—installing EV charging stations. However, implementing this solution presented several challenges, including finding the right partner who could provide not just the infrastructure but also ongoing support and service.
“The WA Charge Up grant was great for us. It really spurred us to add the EV charging infrastructure in now rather than maybe down the line,” Jamie notes. “Once we identified that the grant was available to us, we sought out the best companies we could find, and EVSE came in at a great price for that quality piece of infrastructure.”
Jamie further describes their experience with EVSE: “More importantly, they were really great to deal with through the whole process—through applying for the grant, getting it installed, and the after-installation support has been fantastic. So they’re always there on the phone when we need them, it’s been a great relationship so far.”
Partnering with EVSE Australia
A tailored approach was crucial for the success of the project. The team conducted a thorough assessment of the resort’s existing electrical infrastructure and solar capabilities, providing a customised solution that maximised the number of chargers without overwhelming the power supply.
EVSE installed the Ocular IQ Dual Port Tower, a versatile solution that caters to two vehicles simultaneously, ensuring convenience for all guests while maintaining the resort’s commitment to sustainability.
“Since implementing the EVSE infrastructure, we’ve seen a noticeable response from our customers,” Jamie explains. “We’re seen as a forward-thinking and environmentally conscious resort. Those that have been here with their electric vehicles have really appreciated that we are starting to attract guests solely because we have that infrastructure that may otherwise not have stayed with us or may not have felt comfortable even travelling to the area.”
The Impact of EVSE’s Solution
The resort’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at EV charging. With 85 solar panels already in place, there are plans to expand this infrastructure further. Jamie envisions a future where the resort could integrate battery storage, providing a 24/7 power solution that aligns with their green ethos.
“I see a time in the future where most of our guests will have electric vehicles,” Jamie adds. “Adding to our existing solar infrastructure with batteries will help provide a 24/7 power solution. We’re excited about the future and what we can achieve with the continued support of partners like EVSE.”
Looking Ahead
As Timothee Resort looks to the future, they are eager to expand their EV charging capabilities in anticipation of increased electric vehicle adoption. Jamie foresees a time when most of their guests will arrive in electric vehicles, necessitating additional charging stations and enhanced infrastructure.
“Accommodation in regional areas is going to need a lot more infrastructure,” Jamie emphasises. “We’re committed to being at the forefront of sustainable travel, and EVSE is a big part of that commitment.”
The partnership with EVSE has not only provided Timothee Resort with the necessary infrastructure but has also inspired confidence in their ability to innovate and adapt. The resort is now more than just a place to stay; it’s a model for how hospitality businesses can embrace sustainability and meet the evolving needs of their guests.
Timothee Resort’s journey towards sustainability, supported by EVSE Australia, illustrates how businesses can integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations without compromising guest experience. By implementing EV charging infrastructure and expanding their solar capabilities, the resort has positioned itself as a leader in sustainable hospitality.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved with EVSE,” Jamie concludes. “They’ve been more than just a service provider; they’ve been a partner in every sense. Together, we’re not just reducing our footprint; we’re setting a standard for what’s possible in the hospitality industry.”
