Powering a Greener Fleet with Smart EV Charging in Sydney’s South East: Randwick Council
The Challenge
CJD Equipment, a national leader in heavy vehicles and construction and the dealer for Volvo Construction Equipment, is at the forefront of the shift toward electric and hybrid heavy vehicle machinery.
As more customers seek sustainable heavy vehicle solutions, CJD needed a way to showcase, operate, and support electric machinery without slowing down their day-to-day operations. “We faced some challenges at our existing branches,” said Simon Bycroft, National Commercial Sales Manager at CJD Equipment. “We had to gear up the existing infrastructure to be able to handle charging of the machinery.”
The challenge was not just about installing chargers. CJD required a scalable, future-ready solution that could support electric equipment sales at their Perth and Brisbane sites, and be replicated across their nationwide operations as demand continued to grow.
Why CJD Equipment Chose EVSE Australia
CJD selected EVSE Australia for its depth of experience delivering EV charging solutions in complex commercial and industrial environments. Unlike other providers, EVSE offers a true end-to-end approach, combining high-power charging infrastructure, portable solutions, and future-proof electrical upgrades tailored specifically to heavy vehicle operations.
Crucially, EVSE’s national footprint and local teams across Australia meant the solution could be designed once and scaled consistently across multiple sites and customer deployments.
“We relied on local partners like EVSE to give us advice on how to install charging infrastructure and the power needs that each branch is going to need to handle” Bycroft explained.
With teams on the ground in Perth and Brisbane, EVSE provided hands-on support from design through to installation, ensuring each site met CJD’s operational requirements while remaining flexible enough to support customer demonstrations and off-site use.

The Solution
EVSE’s local teams delivered a tailored charging ecosystem at CJD’s Perth and Brisbane sites, creating a reliable, high-performance solution to keep their electric machinery moving:
- 180kW Ocular Atlas DC fast chargers on each site for rapid charging of electric heavy vehicles
- 22kW IQ Commercial AC charger per site for fleet and staff vehicles
- 30kW Ocular Roam portable DC charger per site for flexible, on-demand charging
- Tailored charging heads to suit a range of heavy vehicle and equipment requirements
Active load management was implemented to safeguard each site’s electrical capacity. In Brisbane, a major power upgrade was completed with custom switchboards, a new transformer, and upgraded infrastructure to ensure the site is ready for both current and future needs.
Beyond CJD’s own operations, EVSE Australia also supplied portable EV chargers to support customer demonstrations and off-site deployments, allowing CJD to showcase electric machinery without operational constraints.
The Outcome
CJD Equipment now benefits from a future-ready heavy vehicle charging ecosystem that supports internal operations, customer demonstrations, and off-site deployments. The solution has significantly improved vehicle turnaround times, giving the team greater confidence in adopting electric heavy vehicle equipment.
“These chargers allow us to fast-track our L120 in around 90min,” said Simon Bycroft, highlighting the practical impact on daily operations.
With scalable infrastructure in place, CJD can now expand its electrification strategy across multiple sites and customer networks, ensuring both current needs and future growth are fully supported. The integrated charging solution provides flexibility, reliability, and efficiency, helping CJD lead the transition to sustainable heavy vehicle operations.
