Powering the Shift to Electric Machinery with Smart Charging Solutions: CJD Equipment
Project Overview
Randwick Council, located in Sydney’s South East, has taken another important step toward a more sustainable future in partnership with EVSE. To support the ongoing rotation of their growing fleet, the council chose to upgrade two key ground-zero sites with advanced EV charging infrastructure. As the council’s core operational hubs, the Administration and Works depot were selected as the starting points for this rollout. Tasked with delivering 36 charging ports across both locations, EVSE provided a complete end-to-end solution, from the supply and installation of chargers to smart load management.

The Project

Recognising the growing need for efficient EV charging to support their evolving fleet, Randwick Council set out to find a trusted partner capable of delivering a future-ready solution with minimal disruption to daily operations. After a detailed consultation, the council partnered with EVSE for its proven ability to manage the entire project from design through to completion and on-going support
Ensuring uninterrupted site access was a priority. The project required significant trenching at the works depot, but to minimise disruption, EVSE employed a technique that enabled cable installation with minimal surface impact. To maintain project momentum and efficiency, after-hours work was also scheduled keeping the installation on track while avoiding interference with daily operations.
As part of this rollout, EVSE installed new EV distribution boards in collaboration with Hager. This integration delivered advanced energy management and seamless compatibility with the site’s existing electrical infrastructure. Together, the solution optimised charger performance, streamlined system monitoring, and future-proofed the installation to support the council’s ongoing fleet expansion.
With 36 charging ports installed across the two sites, maximising power output with the site’s limited electrical capacity was a key challenge. This was overcome through Ocular’s Load Control technology, which dynamically balances power distribution to prevent grid overload. Thanks to this innovation, Randwick Council can now efficiently rotate and charge multiple vehicles simultaneously, without compromising reliability or performance.
Beyond supporting its own fleet, the council also aimed to provide convenient charging access for the wider community. To achieve this, an Ocular Dual Port Tower was installed in the public carpark, offering accessible charging for both council vehicles and local drivers.
Fleet Management Integration
The chargers were integrated into the Exploren platform, giving Randwick Council complete visibility and control over all charging stations through a single, centralised portal. This integration enables the council to monitor usage, access real-time charging data, and manage user permissions across the entire network with ease.
Following system handover, EVSE provided comprehensive staff training to ensure the council could fully leverage Exploren’s powerful reporting and management tools, supporting ongoing operational efficiency and smart energy use.
A Step Toward a Greener Future
Randwick Council’s investment in electric vehicle infrastructure represents a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to sustainability. By embracing innovative technology, strategic collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership, the council is setting a powerful example for local governments across Australia.
This project not only supports a cleaner, more efficient fleet, it reflects a broader vision for a sustainable, low-emissions future that benefits both the council and the community.
