Improving Access: Westfield Kotara’s EV Charging Upgrade
Overview
EVSE Australia is proud to have supported Inner West Council in delivering 22 new kerbside charging sites across the local area. This initiative aimed to expand public charging infrastructure, particularly for residents without access to home charging. Recognising the growing demand, Inner West Council secured NSW Government support, enabling the installation of 24 chargers to better serve the community.
A tailored approach was essential to the project’s success. EVSE’s team conducted a comprehensive assessment of the council’s existing electrical infrastructure, designing a customised solution that maximised charger numbers without overloading the grid.
The final rollout featured 23 Ocular IQ Dual Port Towers and one Ocular DC Titan, downrated to 80A to align with grid capacity while still delivering fast, efficient charging. Strategically distributed across the council area, these chargers provide convenient access for both residents and visitors.
Backed by Exploren
The newly installed network of chargers across the Inner West area are provided by EVSE and backed by Exploren’s trusted and reliable software. The integration of the charging management software platform enables the council to easily adjust tariff rates and bill users based on charging duration. The app is also simple for visitors to use, simply scan the QR code and initiate charging.
Inner West Council can also access valuable insights into visitor charging behaviours through the Exploren software, including analysis of charging duration, kilowatt-hour consumption, and session data. These features allow the council to make educated decisions that help elevate their visitors experience.
This combination of hardware and software ensures that the charging network is not only reliable today but also scalable for the future. As EV adoption grows, Inner West Council will be able to effortlessly expand its infrastructure while maintaining a smooth, user-friendly experience for the community.
A connected and Cleaner Future
This project represents more than just new charging infrastructure, it’s a step towards a cleaner, more connected Inner West. By combining government support, council vision, and EVSE’s expertise, the rollout has created a practical charging network that benefits residents, visitors, and local businesses alike. Apartment dwellers now have reliable charging options close to home, EV drivers passing through can top up while shopping or dining, and the council can continue to lead by example in reducing transport emissions. The success of this initiative sets a benchmark for other councils aiming to accelerate their transition to sustainable mobility.
Conclusion
The Inner West Council kerbside charging project shows what’s possible when forward-thinking leadership, smart technology, and strong partnerships come together. With reliable, user-friendly chargers powered by advanced software, the council has built an EV charging network that’s ready to meet today’s demand and adapt to tomorrow’s growth. It’s a model for how local governments can take practical, impactful steps towards a cleaner, more accessible transport future.
