As more car manufacturers introduce their range of electric vehicles and battery technologies proving their reliability over the years, people are more confident than ever in switching to electric vehicles as their daily driver. However, comparing to other countries, the uptake of electric vehicles in Australia is still very negligible; with only 10 electric vehicles per 10,000 vehicles sold (according to ClimateWorks Australia Report).
Part of the reason for the slow up-take is due to the lack of charging infrastructure across Australia. Luckily this is soon to change as more and more city councils are taking the initiative to electrify the city including electric car charging stations Melbourne.
One prime example is the recent announcement of the Victoria government funding $2 million for ultra-rapid EV Charging Stations across Melbourne, Ballarat, Horsham, Torquay, and Traralgon. While many AC charging networks around the city can provide 40-120km of range per hour of charge, the proposed rapid charging infrastructure will have to ability to provide up to 400km of range on a single charge.

The main benefit of implementing rapid charging stations will not only relief city commuters from range anxiety but more importantly allow EV drivers to travel between states at the most efficient time possible without having to stay over night just to wait for the vehicle to charge.
With more and more charging network jumping onboard the future predicts that there will be over 100+ rapid charging station spanning across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide by the end of 2020.
