The DC Fast Charging Grants are part of NSW’s broader strategy to expand its EV infrastructure. These grants are designed to support the installation of ultrafast DC fast chargers across the state. Unlike standard chargers, DC fast chargers can significantly reduce charging times, making long-distance travel in EVs more practical and convenient. The Ultrafast chargers allow for an EV to recharging in under 8 minutes. Getting closer to petrol every day.

The grants aim to add 280 fast and ultra-fast charging stations across NSW. This will ensure that fast charging stations are no more than 5 km apart in metropolitan areas and no more than 100 km apart on major roads and highways across NSW.

What’s new in Round 3

Round 3 of the DC Fast Charging Grants builds on the successes of previous rounds by increasing the funding and expanding the scope of the initiative. This round is expected to prioritize high-traffic areas that have yet to receive major funding, including regional towns and along major highways, to create a more robust and accessible charging network. The focus will also be on supporting installations in locations that previously lacked adequate EV infrastructure.

Key Benefits of the Grants

1. Enhanced Charging Infrastructure – By funding the installation of more DC fast chargers, these grants will help bridge gaps in the existing network, making it easier for EV owners to find charging stations and reducing range anxiety. Charging an EV needs to be as easy as filling a traditional vehicle. No excuses

2. Support for Regional NSW – One of the notable aspects of Round 3 is its emphasis on regional and rural areas. This ensures that even remote communities benefit from the growing EV infrastructure, fostering inclusivity and supporting regional development.

3. Encouraging EV Adoption – Faster and more accessible charging options can significantly influence the decision to switch to an EV. By reducing the time and inconvenience associated with charging, these grants will likely accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across NSW.

4. Economic and Environmental Impact – Investing in DC fast chargers not only supports the green transition but also creates jobs and stimulates local economies. Additionally, a more extensive EV charging network contributes to reduced carbon emissions and supports NSW’s environmental goals.

How to Apply

Organisations and businesses interested in applying for Round 3 of the DC Fast Charging Grants should prepare to meet specific eligibility criteria and demonstrate how their project aligns with the state’s sustainability objectives. Detailed application guidelines and deadlines are available on the NSW government’s website. It’s advisable for potential applicants to review these materials thoroughly and consider how their proposed projects can make a meaningful impact.

The Round 3 DC Fast Charging Grants represent a significant step forward in building a comprehensive EV charging network across New South Wales. By investing in this critical infrastructure, NSW is not only supporting the current generation of electric vehicle owners but also laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and efficient transportation future.

As these grants come to fruition, we can expect to see a more connected and accessible charging network that will help drive the transition to electric vehicles and support the state’s broader environmental goals. For those looking to be part of this transformative journey, now is the time to explore opportunities and contribute to shaping a greener, more sustainable future for NSW.

Will using a DC fast charger cause issues for your EV battery?

Although studies have indicated that regular fast (DC) charging may cause a battery to deteriorate more quickly than with AC charging, the impact on battery health is negligible. The average increase in battery degeneration due to DC charging is actually only 0.1 percent. Since lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are susceptible to high temperatures, taking good care […]
