BMW iX3: Features of the German Manufacturer’s First Electric SUV

Featured Image

Following the tremendous success of i3, BMW has unveiled their first electric SUV, the iX3. As the name suggests, the SUV is best described as a combination of i3 and the third-generation X3. Featuring an advanced electric motor and battery, iX3 delivers a combined power of 286 HP. Not to mention the increasing availability of BMW charging station that makes your trips free from hassles. Two variants, namely Premier Edition and Premier Edition Pro, will be available for sale in the market.

Design:

The design of the BMW iX3 looks identical to that of the X3. Take a closer look and you will spot some differences. The most significant change is the brand new kidney grille design at the front. Since the EV doesn’t have an engine to cool, BMW’s standard grill won’t be necessary for the iX3. By sealing the grill, it reduces drag and increases range by a few kilometres before heading to a BMW iX3 charging station. The vehicle also comes with 20-inch wheels that are designed to improve the vehicle’s range.

EV Range:

The latest EV comes with an 80 kWh battery, which provides a range of over 450 kms. It’s a tad closer to the competition, including the Audi e-tron and the new Jaguar I-Pace. The battery will support up to 11kw AC charging. Charge up to 80 percent using a BMW iX3 charging station for about 30 minutes. The EV will give a range of 100km after a 10-minute recharge. Expect to charge the battery a little longer when using less-powerful outlets at home.

Brake Regeneration:

The iX3 comes with brake regeneration, a mechanism with which energy is fed to charge the battery when you apply the brake. This helps to extend the range of your vehicle. The kinetic energy that would have been lost when decelerating the vehicle is collected and supplied to the battery instead.

The regeneration system in BMW iX3 combined with ‘Driving Assist Professional’ will improve savings, as the EV automatically slows down based on the road situation. Apart from enhancing fuel efficiency, brake regeneration brings down vehicle emissions too.

Highlights of the iX3 Premier Edition:

  • 12-inch digital drivers display
  • 10-inch touch screen infotainment system
  • Electrically adjustable leather seats
  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Adaptive suspension

Highlights of the iX3 Premier Edition Pro:

The iX3 Premier Edition Pro comes equipped with additional convenience features including:

  • Gesture control
  • Harman Kardon surround sound system
  • Automatic high beam control
  • Extra lumbar support for front seats
  • Parking assistant that safely parks vehicle for you
  • Assisted Driving View, a head-up display that information for safe and convenient driving

Available Colours:

Both iX3 Premier and Premier Pro is said to be available in black, blue, white, and grey body colours.

The BMW iX3 perfectly fulfils your goal of sustainable driving by using an efficient BMW charger and the EV’s powerful motor. The new electric SUV is well worth the investment for the improved fuel efficiency and driving comfort it offers.
