Can I use an extension cable for the portable EVC ?
No. We do not recommend the use of an extension cable for the mini portable charger, as the extension cables are not designed for high power usage. The current going through the portable EVC is not supported on a regular extension cable and can overheat the extension cable, damaging the cable extender and creating a potential fire hazard.
Instead you should consider owning our 9m Portable Type 2 EV Charger, that has the internal cabling suited for electric car charging.
Advanced Safety Features IEC/EN Standards
Our EVC is one of the few that meet all Australian requirements.
This means we meet required control and safety functions. This standard applies to portable devices performing simultaneously the functions of detection of the residual current, of comparison of the value of this current with the residual operating value and of opening of the protected circuit when the residual current exceeds this value.
Can I Charge in the Rain?
Yes it can, the product is rated at IP66, meaning that it can withstand water and ingrest This means that the portable EVC is suitable to power your vehicle in the rain. IP66 Enclosure – IP rated as “dust tight” and protected against heavy seas or powerful jets of water.
Where I can use this portable station?
This portable station can be used on any standard 10amp power outlet. We often say you can use any standard outlet that you would use to power your kettle or microwave. As mentioned, ensure that the charging station is close to your vehicle, as extension cables are not recommended.
What is the difference between a charging cable and a portable EVC?
A portable EVC plugs in to a 10amp socket and your automobile, whilst a charging cable plugs into a universal electric vehicle station and your car. Ideally, we would recommend that the electric vehicle driver carry both, to ensure they can make the most of all power outlets available.
What is the difference between a 10amp and a 15amp charging station?
The difference in the 10amp and the 15amp charging stations lies within the charging speeds. For example, a 8 amp portable EVC powers your car at approximately 10kms/per hour whilst a 15amp electric vehicle charger powers your automobile at approximately 20km/ per hour. Electric car users can often be confused between the two power outlets, the main difference is that the earth (bottom pin) is significantly larger on the 15-amp outlet. Please refer to the image below. 10amp outlets are most commonly found around the house, where a 15amps are found at some households or commercial buildings.
