General Overview

  • This grant provides funding to assist dealerships, EV repairers, and charge point operators in building new public fast EV charging stations at automotive dealership and EV repairer sites, including regional and journey enablement areas.
  • Grant funding covers up to 50% of eligible costs for metropolitan locations and up to 80% for regional and journey enablement areas.

How much can you receive?

The grant percentage depends on the zone your charging station is located in, based on the EVCI Mapping Tool. Projects spanning multiple zones are assessed on a per-station basis.

  • All bays rated at minimum 75kW when all are in use
  • At least 50% of bays rated at 175kW or above
  • CCS Type 2 plug on every bay
  • OCPP 2.0.1 capable (1.6J minimum)
REGIONAL & JOURNEY ENABLEMENT
Towns, regional centres & travel corridors
80%

Up to 80% of eligible expenditure covered higher support recognising installation challenges in regional areas.

  • All bays rated at minimum 75kW (regional) / 50kW (journey) when all in use
  •  One 22kW AC redundancy charger required per station
  • CCS Type 2 plug on every bay
  • OCPP 2.0.1 capable (1.6J minimum)

Main purpose of this grant

  • Deliver new public fast EV charging stations at automotive dealership and EV repairer premises.
  • Encourage the installation of chargers in regional and journey enablement areas to expand Australia’s public charging network.
  • Support dealerships and EV repairers to host public chargers on their sites.
  • Facilitate partnerships between charge point operators (CPOs) and automotive businesses to grow EV charging infrastructure across Australia.

You must also be one of the following:

  • Must have an Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Must have an account with an Australian financial institution.
  • Must be an entity incorporated in Australia.
  • EV repair groups.
  • Automotive manufacturers.
  • Energy companies and Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs).
  • Organisations that partner with a dealership or EV repairer as a site host applicant do not need to own the site.

You can’t apply if you are:

  • Organisations listed on the National Redress Scheme’s list of institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme.
  • Employers of 100 or more employees that have not complied with the Workplace Gender Equality Act (2012).
  • Regional Development Australia Committees.
  • Non-corporate Commonwealth entities.
  • Organisations that have already received a grant under the DRIVEN Charger Grant Stream under the same ABN.
  • Organisations that submit more than one application under the same ABN only the application submitted closest to the closing date will be considered.

All grant activities must be completed by 31st March 2029, and all charging stations must be public fast DC chargers only: slow or AC Level 2 chargers are not eligible.

To be eligible, your project must:

  • Support installation of charging stations at automotive dealerships and EV repair premises in eligible areas (per the EVCI Mapping Tool)
  • Meet the Minimum Operating Standards (MoS) and project delivery requirements (Appendix C)
  • Include at least one CCS Type 2 plug per charging bay

To be considered eligible:

  • You must propose to purchase and install a public fast DC charging bays at an eligible automotive dealership or EV repairer premises.
  • Each charging bay must include at least one CCS Type 2 connector.

You will only be reimbursed up to the value of your incurred eligible expenditure:

  • Metropolitan zones up to 50% of eligible expenditure per charging station.
  • Regional and journey enablement zones up to 80% of eligible expenditure per charging station.

The maximum grant amount per eligible ABN is $8,000,000 regardless of total amount spent. Only one grant is available per ABN and all project activity must be completed by 31st March 2029

Zone classification is determined by the EVCI Mapping Tool at the time of your application. You can access the tool at evciroadmap.evenergi.com to check whether your site falls under a metropolitan, regional or journey enablement zone.
Yes. A single application can cover multiple sites, provided the overall project meets the minimum requirement of 25 charging bays and all other eligibility requirements are met across the project.
No, chargers may be for private and/or public use.
Yes. Applicants do not need to own the site. The charging stations must be installed at an automotive dealership or EV repairer premises, or on directly adjacent land where the dealership or EV repairer has the necessary right or consent to install charging stations.
Yes. If you submit your application before the close date, you can retrieve it at any time to make changes. However, it must be resubmitted before the closing date of 28th August 2026 at 5:00pm AEST.
The final funding decision is made by a senior executive officer within DCCEEW. Timeframes for assessment outcomes will be communicated through the application portal.
Yes. The DRIVEN Charger Grant Stream and the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream are two separate programs under the DRIVEN banner.
