Help your sports club go green and save on energy bills
The Australian Government’s Game on: Teaming for climate action program provides grants of $25,000 to $100,000 to community sports clubs to make their facilities more energy efficient and climate resilient.
Grant funding covers up to 100% of eligible expenditure, meaning your club could receive the full cost of approved upgrades from solar panels and EV chargers to LED flood lighting and flood-resilient drainage.

What can the grant fund?
The grant (administered by DCCEEW) is specifically for community sports clubs to upgrade their facilities with energy-saving and climate-resilient infrastructure. That includes:

Are you ready to apply for the grant
✅ Eligible expenditure includes:
- Solar PV systems, battery storage, switchboard upgrades
- LED lighting for courts, fields and clubhouses
- Heat pumps: pool heaters and hot water systems
- HVAC upgrade or replacement
- Building envelope improvements (insulation, glazing, draught sealing)
- Electrification of gas appliances (cooking, heating)
- EV charging infrastructure
- Shading structures, drainage upgrades, stormwater management
- Climate risk assessments and climate action plan development
- Disaster-resilient roofing and backup power systems
- Waste reduction infrastructure and circular economy practices
- Educational signage and climate communication materials
✕ You cannot apply if you are:
- Corporate/non-corporate Commonwealth entities
- Sole traders, partnerships, or unincorporated associations
- Organisations on the National Redress or WGEA non-compliant lists
- Already received a Game On grant in Round 1 (ineligible for Round 2)
- Service delivery support subcontractors
- Organisations with unresolved Commonwealth grant acquittals
✕ Projects are ineligible if they:
- Have commenced or been completed
- Are in commercial facilities (licensed bars, gaming venues)
- Involve gas-to-gas or electric-to-gas conversions
- Include land, carpark, or access road purchases/leases
- Are at individually or ineligibly trust-owned sites
- Use non-compliant technologies
- Are fully funded by another Commonwealth program
✕ Grant money cannot be used for:
- Wages, salaries or internal labour costs
- Purchase of land
- Retrospective costs or works already done
- Application preparation costs
- Ongoing administration (electricity, phone, rent)
- Overseas travel
- Routine maintenance and repairs
- Diesel generators
- Sporting apparel, equipment or scoreboards
- Computers, TVs, software or ICT hardware (unless directly related)
- Cosmetic renovations (floors, furniture, non-project signage)
- Events and marketing costs
- Non-climate-adaptation landscaping
- White certificate (VEECs/ESCs) or small-scale technology certificate (STC) costs

Yes. A small consortium of 1–10 clubs can apply for up to $1 million total, and a large consortium of 11–20 clubs can apply for up to $2 million total. Each club in the consortium can receive $25,000–$100,000. The lead organisation submits one application on behalf of all members and enters into the grant agreement with the Commonwealth.
More than 50% of Round 1 funding is reserved for clubs affiliated with AFL, cricket, football/soccer, basketball, netball, rugby league, tennis, golf, athletics, gymnastics, and surf lifesaving. All other codes are still eligible but compete for the remaining allocation.
Both are eligible. Solar PV with battery storage and EV charging infrastructure can be included in the same application. EVSE specialises in EV charging; we can work alongside your solar installer or refer you to a suitable partner.
Applications must be submitted online through the GrantConnect portal at grants.gov.au by 9:00 pm AEST on 28 July 2026. Applications by fax or mail are not accepted. Contact EVSE first we can assist with eligibility checks, preparing quotes for EV charging, and application documentation.
9:00 pm AEST on 28 July 2026 but the round may close earlier if funding is fully committed. Applications are considered in order of receipt if the round is oversubscribed, so earlier is better.
