General Overview
The Electric Vehicle Destination Charging Grant Program provides funding to assist small to medium Tasmanian tourism businesses in installing AC destination EV chargers for visitors staying overnight. The program supports Tasmania’s commitment to becoming a leading destination for climate-conscious travel, as outlined in the Government’s 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy.
Delivered in two rounds, round 1 has a total funding pool of $125,000. Eligible businesses can receive up to $2,500 per charger, for a maximum of four chargers meaning up to $10,000 per business.
Important: This is a competitive grant program, not a first-come, first-served program. Applications will be assessed after the round closes against the published assessment criteria. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee funding, and not all applications will be successful.

Why This Grant Exists
The Electric Vehicle Destination Charging Grant Program is designed to help small to medium Tasmanian tourism businesses purchase and install AC destination EV chargers for overnight visitors. The program supports Tasmania’s goal of becoming a leading destination for climate-conscious travel, as outlined in the Government’s 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy. By making EV charging more accessible at tourism accommodation sites across the state, the grant helps businesses attract EV-driving visitors, improve the guest experience, and position themselves for the growing demand for low-emissions travel.
Eligibility
Who Is This Grant For?
To be eligible, your business must meet all three of the following criteria:
- Provides paid overnight accommodation to visitors on a commercial basis
- Currently operating and physically located in Tasmania, with a valid ABN held for at least 12 months before the application date
- Is a small to medium business with no more than 199 full-time-equivalent employees
The following business types are not eligible: local, state or federal government entities; public companies; unincorporated associations; passive property-investment entities; businesses for sale, insolvent or under external administration; and third parties applying on behalf of a business owner.
Charger Guidance
What Type of Charger Is Right for Tourism Sites?
For overnight accommodation businesses, a permanently-wired 240V AC Level 2 charger delivering 7kW–22kW is the eligible hardware type under this program. These are ideal where visitors are parked for several hours or overnight. Each charger must be:
- Installed by a licensed electrical contractor, compliant with Australian electrical standards
- For visitor use only, at dedicated EV parking spaces
- On a site owned or under the applicant’s direct control (owner consent required if leased)
- Operational by 15 June 2027 and not commenced, contracted or completed before 10 August 2026
Note: A charging unit with multiple ports may have each simultaneously usable port considered as a separate charger. Each eligible port may receive funding of up to $2,500, subject to competitive assessment and approval.
Are you ready to apply for the grant
To qualify for this grant, your business must meet all three criteria:
1. Paid overnight accommodation
Provides paid overnight accommodation to visitors on a commercial basis hotel, motels, B&Bs, cabins, farm stays, caravan and holiday parks, eco retreats, and similar.
2. Operating in Tasmania
Currently operating and physically located in Tasmania, with a valid ABN held for at least 12 months before the application date.
3. Small to medium business
No more than 199 full-time-equivalent employees.
- Local, state or federal government entities
- Public companies (as defined in the Corporations Act 2001)
- Unincorporated associations
- Passive property-investment entities (residential or commercial rental income only)
- Businesses for sale, insolvent, under external administration or bankrupt
- More than one application submitted under the same ABN
- Third parties applying on behalf of a business owner
- Anyone who has not acquitted a previous Tasmanian Government grant as required
The grant covers the following expenditure:
- Purchase of new eligible AC destination chargers
- Installation of supporting electrical infrastructure
- Relevant signage
- Safety equipment and accessibility features
Important conditions
- Installation of chargers must not have commenced, been contracted or completed before 10 August 2026
- All chargers must be operational by 15 June 2027
- Each charger must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor, compliant with Australian electrical standards
- Chargers must be for visitor use only, at dedicated EV parking spaces
- Site must be owned or under the applicant’s direct control (owner consent required if lease)

- Complete and submit your application (save drafts as you go)
- Submit your application before the close date of 31st August 2026.
