General Overview
- $18.8 million is available nationally under the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream from 2026 to 2029, funded through the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation Fund.
- Eligible sites can claim up to $50,000 in total, across all rounds of the rebate program.
- EV chargers: up to $3,000 per plug, capped at $21,000 per site. Some units have multiple plugs. The rebate will never exceed what you actually spent.
- EV-specific workshop equipment, tools and PPE: up to 80% of eligible costs, within the $50,000 site cap.
- Application administration fees: up to $250 where a third party helps prepare your claim.

What’s new in Round 3?
Round 3 expands the rebate beyond charging hardware. Dealerships and repairers can now claim up to 80% of the cost of the EV-specific equipment a workshop needs to service and repair electric vehicles safely.
- Personal protective equipment Arc flash face shields with chin guard, electrical hazard rated insulated protective footwear, high voltage rated insulated safety gloves.
- Workshop equipment and tools High voltage rated first aid kits with rescue hook, automated external defibrillators, EV fire blankets, high voltage insulating floor mats, EV signage, barriers and warning covers, lockout/tagout kits, appropriately rated digital multimeters and test leads, insulation resistance testers, high voltage rated insulated tools, EV battery testing and diagnostic equipment, EV-specific scan tools, EV battery storage or containment equipment, and low voltage battery maintenance chargers suitable for EV applications.
- Lifting equipment EV battery lifting tables and other battery lifting equipment, EV-specific vehicle hoists and access equipment.
- One copy of AS 5732:2022 can also be claimed per site.
Already claimed in Round 1 or Round 2?
You cannot top up a charger rebate you have already been approved for. You can still apply under Round 3 for EV-specific equipment that wasn’t previously funded.
Eligible organisations include:
Electric Vehicle Repairers
An automotive repair business, compliant with Australian Standards 5732:202 2 (EV operations - maintenance and repair) and which has at least one current member of staff suitable qualified to undertake work on EVs

- Increase the number of EV charging stations in both regional and remote areas across Australia
- Increase the number of Electric Vehicles on Australian roads
- Support the automotive sector and their transition to selling and repairing more electric vehicles
Grant Eligibility
You can apply if you:
- are an eligible entity
- have an eligible project
- have eligilble expenditure
Eligible smart EV chargers include:
- AC plugs with 7 kW charging speed (single phase)
- AC plugs with 11-22 kW charging speed
- DC plugs with 50 kW or less charging speed
Are you ready to apply for the grant
You must also be one of the following:
- a licensed motor dealer/trader
- a service centre associated with a licenced motor dealer/trader
- an automotive repair business operating from non-residential, commercial premises that complies with AS 5732:2022 (EV operations maintenance and repair), can demonstrate the capability to safely service and repair EVs, and has at least one current member of staff suitably qualified to undertake work on EVs.
You can’t apply if you are:
- any organisation not included in eligible entities listed prior
- a business operating out of a residential premises
- an organisation, or your project partner is an organisation, included on the National Redress Scheme’s list of Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme.
You must have purchased and installed at least one eligible smart EV charger(s) at an eligible site on or after 26 March 2024.
Portable DC EV charging units must have been purchased on or after 26 March 2024, and must be powered from an electrical outlet a licensed electrician has assessed as safe and able to support the additional load.
EV-specific equipment
- PPE, workshop equipment, tools and lifting equipment must have been purchased on or after 12 May 2026 and comply with AS 5732:2022.
- Equipment that requires installation must be installed by a suitably qualified technician.
To be considered eligible:
- Purchase and installation of fixed smart EV charging units up to $3,000 per plug, within a $21,000 per-site charger cap.
- Purchase of portable DC EV charging units up to $3,000 per unit. The unit must cost at least $2,500 to qualify; anything below that threshold is ineligible and no rebate is paid.
- Licensed electrician assessment of any outlets or electrical infrastructure used by portable DC units.
- Purchase of EV-specific PPE, workshop equipment, tools and lifting equipment up to 80% of eligible costs, maximum five of each item per site.
- Installation of eligible EV-specific workshop and lifting equipment where applicable.
- Third party administration fees for help preparing your application maximum $250, paid to the dealer or repairer, not directly to the service provider.

- Submit your application before the close date

Yes, you need to to provide evidence of direct costs involved with purchasing and installing an eligible EV smart chargers(s). Purchase and installation must be on or after 26 March 2024. Refer to section 6.1 of the grant opportunity guidelines.
Yes, the program is targeted to support dealerships and EV repairers of passenger and light commercial vehicles.
Only dealers are eligible to apply for a rebate.
